BOXING HISTORY LESSONS
John L. Sullivan : Read about the last bare-knuckle / first gloved Heavyweight Champion! His picture was found in almost every saloon across the nation. The background picture for this page was taken by me at a authentic saloon from the 1800's. And it happen to be on the wall. Enjoy this clip : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLzeEkROY9E
Jack Johnson : He was the first black Heavyweight Champion. No other heavyweight champion had the crazy life that Johnson did. Even Muhammad Ali agreed to that. The video, "Unforgiveable Blackness : The Story of Jack Johnson" is one of the best documentarties I have ever seen even if it was over 3 1/2 hours long. Part 1 of 2 ...

Henry Armstrong : "Hammering" Hank was one of the best fighters in the history of boxing. Armstrong held three titles in three different weight classes at the same time. This is at a time when there was no Jr. titles in between each weight class. At the rate boxing is today it will never again happen. Take a look at a real hurricane.

Rocky Marciano : Rocky Marciano is considered one of the best and the only Heavyweight champion that reired undefeated. I think boxing anaylst, Teddy Atlas puts it best in describing him. "He is themost over-rated and the most under-rated boxer ever". Over-rated because of his opposition being past their prime. And under-rated because he was a great fighter and was the only undefeated Heavyweight champion ever. Watch, "Rocky Marciano ... A Life Story"

Salvador Sanchez : One of my personal favorite fighters. This is a true Ritchie Valens type story of a mexican fighter. To die in an accident at his prime, he will always be a true champion to Mexico. Here's a tribute to him days after his funeral by Howard Cowsell :

Gerald McClellan : One of the biggest tragic stories ever in boxing. After a great fight performance by this warrior, he collapsed in his corner after he was stopped in a match with Nigel Benn. He went into a coma, but survived. But he is now in need of 24/7 care from his sister Lisa. I'm in works with an interview with her, but would like you to see a little background of what we will be talking about ... :

Gabriel Ruelas : The biggest tragedy that can happen in a boxing fight is when a boxer goes down and never gets up. In mid-1995 Gabriel Ruelas takes on tough Columbian fighter Jimmy Garcia. After the fight is stopped, Garcia would never regain conciousness and passes away from his injuries. This tragedy didn't just go one way with Garcia's passing. Gabriel lives on with the grief and with many people never letting him forget about it. (Listen to my interview with him on the "Happy Hour Menu" page)

Tony Ayala Jr. : A great prospect of the 80's that was cut short due to a 16 year sentence. He was released after all those years in prison, and started fighting again. During his comeback was convicted of another crime, and was sent back to prison.
